The trip to Lingfield Races will take place on Saturday, June 1st.
It’s an early evening card followed by some live soul music so should be good fun.
We intend travelling by train from East Croydon. So far, 11 people are signed up for this – if we get a few more then we can get a discount on entry tickets by booking as a group.
So, if you intend to join us, please let Heather know or add your name to the list which will be available by the notice board at our next meeting.
Here are some photographs of our trip
Our annual walk will take place on Saturday, July 20th and will feature a stroll along the Regent’s Canal from Camden Lock to Paddington Basin.
The walk is around four miles and is on level paths. Should members decide that four miles is too much, then you can do a shorter walk from Little Venice to Paddington Basin, which is just over a mile.
We will be stopping for refreshments along the way and then in time honoured fashion we will end our walk with a few glasses and a meal at a venue yet to be decided in the Paddington Basin area.
Committee members are currently researching and sampling possible locations for this. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it!

Our garden party will be on Sunday, August 4th and this year our hosts will once again be Sue and Dennis Gigney so thanks to them for opening up their lovely garden for us all to enjoy.
More details of how the day will run, including the cost, will be circulated nearer the time.
What a great day it was, here are some photo's of the Garden Party
Spring Park Wine Circle held our annual Christmas Charity Fundraiser, where we raised a staggering £630 for our chosen Charity Shirley Neighbourhood Care. All those that attended had an amazing time. Thanks to everyone for their generosity and time.
We are happy to report that Shirley Neighbourhood Care has used a portion of the event's revenues to fill 220 Christmas gift bags with the words, "Thank You SPWC for making this happen."
Without our exceptional members, we could not have accomplished this. Thank you all, and have a wonderful Christmas.
Our Christmas meal took place on Tuesday, December 17th at Tugra restaurant in Hayes. We had our own dedicated room, with its own bar, until midnight. A fun evening was had by all, after the meal DJ Kevin cranked the music up and we danced the night away.
Our first social event of the year will take place on Sunday, March 23rd when we will be arranging Sunday lunch at The British Queen pub and restaurant at Locks Bottom. They have a really good-looking Sunday menu including roast lamb, beef and chicken, together with vegetarian options and other non-roast dishes. The cost is likely to be around £25 to £30 per person for two courses and we will be taking names as soon as possible so if you would like to come on March 23rd (kick off at 2.45 pm) please e-mail me on goffhicks@sky.com or add your name to the list which will be available at the meeting on the 13th. The pub is easy to reach on public transport from Croydon and Bromley. The 353 bus from Forestdale, Coney Hall and Hayes drops you right opposite the pub.
Join us for a visit to this fascinating museum. Travelling by train from East Croydon to Farringdon. Learn about the history of our postal system which is one of the oldest in the world. The trip includes a ride on the famous mail train which collected the post from the main London railway stations and which was hidden from the public for many years.
We will travel by train to Tonbridge from Bromley South which takes around an hour. Once there we pick up the river path which leads into this delightful country park. We follow a circular route around the lake, stopping halfway for refreshments and a comfort break at an award-winning café. The walk threads through delightful woodland and passes the river Medway and takes approximately two hours in total. It is all on good level pathways with no hills, styles or accessibility problems.
We end our walk at Tonbridge Castle and those who wish to can visit the small visitor centre and learn a little about the history of the castle which is one of the oldest motte and bailey castles in the UK. Then, in time honoured fashion, we retire to a popular local hostelry, the Ivy House, for a late Sunday lunch.
Those who came to this popular event last year will remember that the racing was good and so was the live evening entertainment. Unfortunately, the weather was positively arctic, which was a shame. This year will be our third visit, so we hope for third time lucky meaning much better weather. Especially as the entertainment this time is an Abba party night featuring a live tribute band playing into the evening.
Further information will follow, but members who wish to join us should let us know as soon as possible so that we can benefit from a group early bird discount offer of £16pp which applies to groups of more than 10. Nonetheless, you can of course purchase your own ticket online at any time right up to the day.
We have chosen a different venue this year for our summer get together, but the format will remain the same. You bring your food for our team of chefs to expertly cook for you.
More information to follow.
We will travel direct to Faversham by train from Bromley South. The hop festival takes place every year and has a long history. Originally a festival for the benefit of those families who travelled to Kent each year to go hop picking, the festival today is a celebration of all forms of imbibing and features pop-up stalls selling excellent local ciders, beers and wines. Live music is everywhere with many bands and musical acts playing live in the open air and also in many of the pubs.
Come and join us for a great free day out. No ticket required. There is an option to visit and tour the Shepherd Neame Brewery at midday if we can raise a group of members who are keen to include this optional extra. The cost of the brewery tour is £22, but the festival is free. If you would like to join us, we will need names soon in order that we can locate a suitable place to eat later in the day and make a group booking. Please provide your names at a list to be provided at future meetings and state whether or not you wish to include the brewery visit.
Our next meeting is on Thursday 10th April 2025 when we are thrilled to welcome back Carrie Winton from Sparkle and Spirits.
